The Formalloy A222 is a fully-integrated Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) system with build volume of 200 x 200 x 200 mm and 5-axis capability. Ideal for small-batch part production and laboratory applications, the A222 is capable of 3D printing, cladding and repair of metallic parts at an economical price. The laser power source, optics and nozzle can be varied to provide optimal capabilities for a variety of applications. A dual-hopper powder feeder enables quick changeover of powders and custom blending of powders for material development.

Formalloy's 3D metal printing technology utilizes Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) to create metallic parts to near-net shape, increasing the design envelope while providing a more economical solution than producing the same part with conventional methods. Formalloy's 3D printing systems enable reduced machining time and nearly eliminate material waste, particularly with high-value materials such as titanium and Inconel. 3D printing parts with Formalloy's process can provide design features that can’t be achieved with conventional manufacturing methods, such as internal cooling channels and multi-metal parts.

Unlike powder-bed 3D printing technologies such as direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), Formalloy's LMD process deposits metal with a coaxially aligned laser/powder nozzle. Our process typically achieves much faster build times, superior material properties and a much larger build envelope compared with powder-bed technologies.

Formalloy's LMD process can produce parts with dimensions from less than 1 mm to greater than 1 meter with track widths from 0.7 – 8 mm and track thicknesses from 0.1 – 2.5 mm.
